Why change constituency boundaries?

Constituency boundaries are going to be changed to reduce the number of from 533 to 501.

Will each new constituency have the same number of electors?

Constituencies will not have exactly the same number of electors but the difference will be less than it is now, approximately 9,000 compared to 40,000 at the moment.

When can I see the new constituency boundaries?

The first set of the new constituency boundaries were published on the 13 September 2016. See the 2018 boundary review proposals on the Boundary Commission for England's website.

Will Penrith and the Borders constituency cease to exist?

Yes, if the first proposals are accepted. Eden will be divided between Penrith and Solway County Constituency with an electorate of 72,284 and Westmorland and Lonsdale County Constituency with an electorate of 72,371.
